Tanning Tips

Burning is not Tanning!!!!!
Always remember, burning is not tanning! Start out slow. If your just starting out for the season don't try to tan for the full time. Starting out at 6 - 7 minutes is the best way to ensure a good, healthy tan. Build your time up each time you tan until you reach the maximum time. Purchasing monthly packages are a great way to achieve a great tan slowly.

WEAR YOUR EYEWEAR!!!!!
The Food and Drug Administration require our tanning salon to carry protective eyewear that meet the transmission specifications. Eyewear is available at Spataneous. It is approved and 100% protective. The eyelid does not effectively block ultraviolet light, which in turn could cause cataracts to form over a period of time. As well as night blindness and other conditions that cannot be corrected.

Tanning Lotion is a Must!!!!!
It is imperative to use tanning lotion while tanning indoors. Tanning lotion is meant to amplify the effects of ultraviolet light, rather than blocking the rays - resulting in quick results. Although the tanning lotion promotes a tan, it also helps protect the skin from burning. The other primary reason to use tanning lotion is to moisturize the skin. Professional tanning lotions contain less alcohol than regular tanning lotions and contain the right amounts of moisturizer that the tanning removes from the skin. The tanning lotion should be specially formulated for indoor tanning.
Healthy skin tans darker, faster, and stays longer!
Choosing the Right Lotion!!!!
Choosing the right lotion can be difficult. There are several different types of lotions and brands. Some of our favotite types and brands are....
Designer Skin ~ Austrailan Gold ~ Swedish Beauty ~ California Tan

The majority of lotions can be broken into 4 types.

Intensifiers - Basic indoor tanning lotion. They are engineered to maximize UV stimulated melanin results, which is what produces a tan. They are offered at many price points. Premium accelarators contain more antioxidants, vitamins, hydrating complexes and natural elements.
Bronzers - Bronzers are used to help produce immediate results. There are two types of bronzers. Immediate bronzers are seen immediately and will remain until washed away, no more than 1-2 days. Delayed Bronzers contain DHA. DHA results are seen 2 - 4 hours after tanning and can be seen for 4-7 days.
Tingle - Tingle lotions contain a skin irratant which causes a tingling or burning sensation. Tingle lotions stimulate blood flow causing it to rise to the surface of the skin (causing redness to occur). Stimulating the blood flow allows more oxygen to oxygenate the melanin at a faster pace. Beginner tanners tyring a tingle lotion should use with caution. Test lotion on a portion of your skin as a rule. Also, start with a lower level tingle lotion.

Combination Lotions - Tanning lotions are available in an array of combinations. The types of lotions already mentioned are mixed to create different types of combinations. Examples of some of those combinations are an intensifier lotion with a bronzer or a tingle lotion with a bronzer.
